More Information about Prairie Smoke The music of Prairie Smoke is like bacon sizzling on the stove. Prairie Smoke’s home-cooking is done by a five-member band that, among them, plays penny whistle, flute, fiddle, mandolin, mountain dulcimer, hammered dulcimer, banjo, guitar and upright bass. They serve up great renditions of everything from Irish jigs, reels, and airs, to original songs that stem from their roots in the Coulee Region. Prairie Smoke is a band whose character truly emerges in live performances. Because they love the music they play, and respect each other’s musicianship, the band’s positive energy is obvious and contagious. Whether performing in a concert hall like the Pump House, or the intimacy of a children’s concert or house concert, Prairie Smoke’s ability to entertain and inspire remains constant. Prairie Smoke is Erin Hussey, Betsy Knowles, Rita Koch-Thometz, Jon Stuttgen, and Tom Walter." Ron Malzer, Great River Folk Festival In April of 2003, Prairie Smoke released their first recording, Smoke in Bloom, which features a good sampling of their original music along with traditional Celtic and American folk tunes.
